This Section Is New and I will be adding on services and information each week! Tips, Services, Tools to save you time and frustration! This section should be inspiration to you. If I can learn how to work the computer and design web pages...so can you! I have dyslexia and I learned...I am still learning. Don't say I can't. That is just an excuse. It is much harder with a disability but how badly do you want to learn. If you have enough will to want to learn it...you will or can get help to learn it. Every step higher in web design that I achieve makes me feel more confident. Learning Tools....If you can't take classes or have no time to. Online Learning Classes: Some free ....some are not.They let you learn at your own pace and when you have the time in your schedule. Classes at the local high school, adult programs, or from college. With dyslexia I would have had trouble with this route. It takes me awhile to understand new programs. If you have dyslexia or learning problems use the Dummies Books or Teach Yourself Visually Books. Because they use pictures and explanation...the learning curve is much easier. Read the book and then if you don't understand it...play with it until you get it . In the beginning I spent hours at it. The more I learned, the easier it became. This is how I started: I should say that I hated the computer when I started. I only undertook the challenge because we lost our jobs and I knew that having computer skills would help me make better money. I was intimidated and frustrated and wanted to throw it into the wall at times. I cried and swore and then went back at it again. I am German and pretty stubborn. I was determined I would learn the computer and how to design my own website. Now almost 5 years later, I love my computer. The only addiction I have is high speed access. I spend hours on this machine and would not want to live without Internet. This is quite a statement considering my feelings in 2000. I have been on the Internet since 2000 and this is the 3rd time I have redone this website...each time learning more. I am still learning... for the web and what works changes all the time! I do wish I had known much more to begin with. I made a lot of mistakes and lost some time in it all. I do not regret this learning period. If I had not created it myself....I would have to pay someone to add to it everytime I updated my content and that can get very expensive. It is important for search engine rankings to update your content frequently! This is why it is important to learn to do things yourself. Sometimes what you want to have done is hard to impart to the person designing it. It is in your mind but not easy to describe. I have paid for a lot of web hosting, web services, and tools some of which were a waste of money. I have changed webhosting several times and autoresponder services as well. I am now satisfied with my tool services. I will be presenting on this page what I feel are the best tools in starting up your business. Web Design Tools: I created my own site. When I started in 2000, I did not even know how to email. I began with Front Page but later realized it has some problems such as corrupting the html on pages that you import. That is why web designers do not use it. It is a good learning program. It also comes free with most new computers. Two years later I progressed in my abilities. I was not up to Dream weaver but found SJ Namo Web Editor 5.5 and now the new one 6.0. It has most everything you need to put up a great looking website. It has templates if you want to go that route. It runs about $100 bucks plus. http://www.namo.com/products/ If you have greater skills than Web Editor, DreamWeaver is a good one from what I have heard. I do have one negative and that is Namo's FTP uploading program does not seem to work well. It seems to be difficult in its use. FTP ( A program used to upload your website pages to the internet) I prefer Smart FTP. I had no trouble with it except that my antivirus program was keeping me from uploading. I had to work with the security settings. http://www.smartftp.com/ Smart FTP does cost you money but it is very easy to use. I have purchased three different kinds and this one has been the best. You can go to CNET and download a free one if your budget is pretty tight. I downloaded two from there in the beginning but was not pleased with their use. With dyslexia some programs are easier than others to use. Regarding your FTP Program. If you are unable to upload check your Anti Virus Program or Adware Program. Often you will have to change the security settings to proceed. I took Norton out all together because of problems. The next topic will be Norton. I just finished reformatting my hard drive after Norton became corrupted with a Trogen...several...and in trying to uninstall Norton as it instructed did a real number on my laptop. It took out my system restore function, find files and folders, print function, and Internet explorer. For myself, I have chosen another antivirus program. I will go into that next. I will also go into the browser issue. I downloaded FireFox and love it. I downloaded Firefox on my laptop to use during the time period before I could get it reformatted. Internet Explorer was corrupted but the download function still worked. It downloaded fine and then I downloaded AVG Anti Virus program to use temporarily. AVG will give you a 30 day trial and since I was going to reformat ...I didn't want to purchase one. I had used it once before and it worked great. When I bought this new lap top, it came with a free year of Norton. That was the only reason I was using it. I had taken it out of my desktop because of problems. Norton 2004 caused me more problems and in the end....it let in not one but 10 different trojens. I could not believe it. AVG got rid of them but the damage was already done. People seem to either love Norton or hate it. I will pay for AVG in a few more days. I will have nothing more to do with Norton. Women's Health Issues Links... Click Here
