Hi, [firstname],

My appologies! This ezine did not get published on last Sunday as usual. I ended up having to move several days early and was knee deep in packing and cleaning. I did not have access to the internet for a few days while I moved as well.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

 Here it is the beginning of may already. Time does seem to fly  when our lives are so busy.  Months fly into years and where did they go.  You need to really look deeply into your heart and set new priorities if the ones you have now are not current. You need to make steps or more effort if necessary into those priorities. It may be family or a relationship or a dream that is getting set aside with lifes events.  When you are tired and overworked, this sometimes takes all our strength.  If you don't the price later may be losing that dream or relationship.

Make a list of all the things in your life that you are doing that perhaps are not all that important.

Are they taking away from those priorities that are important?

Perhaps it is time management that is causing problems and not the activities.

 We lose hours and days with things like too much TV, hobbies that we do not enjoy at this point in our life-but have become a habit, or  time just laying around being a couch potato.

When you turn 52 you begin to realize how short life is and how important it is to make those changes NOW not later.

I now spend every other Friday with my daughter and grandchildren. She needs the support and my grand daughters will only be 4 years and 2 years once. It is incredible how rewarding sliding down a slide with a 4 year old can be. It is amazing how much the smile and I missed you grandma can relieve stress and brighten your life and heart.

Think about this in the week ahead.

Meditation

 When you are fearful or sad, you can feel consumed by stress or depression.

Meditation helps you to witness your mind, placing your fears and disappointments in perspective.

Fears and disappointments, however vast, are temporary, like dark clouds in a vast sky. By observing the clouds, you begin to realize that the clouds are your own thoughts. The thoughts arose from your own mind. You can experience your own nature as peaceful, calm and quiet, like the sky on a still day. By paying less attention to your troubling thoughts you can experience power and peace.

Different people benefit from different kinds of meditation and different relaxation techniques.  It is important that meditation be consistent with your religious beliefs and with your disposition.  People may meditate whether they are atheists, Jewish, Christian, Buddhist, Moslem, Hindu, or Ba'hai.  If you choose a form of meditation that requires repetition of a prayer or mantra, that phrase must be compatible with your beliefs. Some forms of meditation are compatible with all beliefs, like meditation with music as a focus or use of the Holosync technique, a modern technology designed to produce deep relaxation.

Imagery

This is an excerpt from "Managing Stress for Career Success", the Mind Tools Stress Management Masterclass.

Imagery is just one of the important mental relaxation techniques that you learn with this course. Not only does the course show you how to use these techniques, it also explains the sound practical psychology that lies behind them.

Mental stress management
Sometimes we are not able to change our environment to manage stress – this may be the case where we do not have the power to change a situation, or where we are about to give an important performance. Imagery is a useful skill for relaxing in these situations.


Introduction:
Imagery is a potent method of stress reduction, especially when combined with physical relaxation methods such as deep breathing.

You will be aware of how particular environments can be very relaxing, while others can be intensely stressful. The principle behind the use of imagery in stress reduction is that you can use your imagination to recreate, and enjoy, a situation that is very relaxing. The more intensely you imagine the situation, the more relaxing the experience will be.

This sounds unlikely. In fact, the effectiveness of imagery can be shown very effectively if you have access to biofeedback equipment. By imagining a pleasant and relaxing scene (which reduces stress) you can objectively see the measured stress in your body reduce. By imagining an unpleasant and stressful situation, you can see the stress in your body increase. This very real effect can be quite alarming when you see it happen the first time!


Using the Tool:


Imagery in Relaxation
One common use of imagery in relaxation is to imagine a scene, place or event that you remember as safe, peaceful, restful, beautiful and happy. You can bring all your senses into the image with, for example, sounds of running water and birds, the smell of cut grass, the taste of cool white wine, the warmth of the sun, etc. Use the imagined place as a retreat from stress and pressure.

Scenes can involve complex images such as lying on a beach in a deserted cove. You may “see” cliffs, sea and sand around you, “hear” the waves crashing against rocks, “smell” the salt in the air, and “feel” the warmth of the sun and a gentle breeze on your body. Other images might include looking at a mountain view, swimming in a tropical pool, or whatever you want. You will be able to come up with the most effective images for yourself.

Other uses of imagery in relaxation involve creating mental pictures of stress flowing out of your body, or of stress, distractions and everyday concerns being folded away and locked into a padlocked chest.


Imagery in Preparation and Rehearsal

You can also use imagery in rehearsal before a big event, allowing you to run through the event in your mind.

 

Aside from allowing you to rehearse mentally, imagery also allows you to practice in advance for anything unusual that might occur, so that you are prepared and already practiced in handling it. This is a technique used very commonly by top sports people, who learn good performance habits by repeatedly rehearsing performances in their imagination. When the unusual eventualities they have rehearsed using imagery occur, they have good, pre-prepared, habitual responses to them.

Imagery also allows you to pre-experience achievement of your goals, helping to give you the self-confidence you need to do something well. This is another technique used by successful athletes.

Summary:
With imagery, you substitute actual experience with scenes from your imagination. Your body reacts to these imagined scenes almost as if they were real, calming you down and letting adrenaline disperse.

To relax with imagery, imagine a warm, comfortable, safe and pleasant place, and enjoy it in your imagination.

Imagery can be shown to work by using biofeedback devices that measure body stress. By imagining pleasant and unpleasant scenes, you can actually see or hear the changing levels of stress in your body diminish.The Stress Management Masterclass:

GARLIC BEATS HOSPITAL SUPER BUG!
The ingredient which gives garlic its distinctive smell is the latest weapon in the battle to beat the hospital "superbug" MRSA.
University of East London researchers found allicin treated even the most antibiotic-resistant strains of the infection. MRSA (Methecillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) causes an estimated 2,000 deaths in UK hospitals each year. Researchers are now testing allicin products in a six-month study. Dr Ron Cutler and his team discovered the effectiveness of allicin in laboratory tests five years ago. They found it can cure MRSA within weeks. It is even effective against the newer strains which cannot be treated by the "last line of defence" antibiotics Vancomycin and Glycopeptides.

GARLIC COULD PROVIDE CANCER DRUG
I just love these new scientific breakthroughs! I sure hope some of you are planting garlic this year!!!

The chemical which gives garlic its flavour could be used in a "smart bomb" to fight cancer, scientists say. The finding comes just days after it was revealed the same chemical, allicin, could treat the hospital superbug MRSA (See next article down). The cancer treatment harnesses the natural chemical reaction in which allicin is produced. The journal Molecular Cancer Therapeutics details how the reaction can be triggered at tumour sites.
