Breast Cancer Prevention Diet [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] Dietary: Olive oil, 1-2 tbsp per day Fish, 2-3 times per week or more Soy foods from a young age Vegetables, especially cabbage family foods Fruits Legumes Whole grains Green tea, 2 or more cups per day Alcohol, less than one drink per day Avoid saturated fats, trans fats Exercise: 2-1/2 hours per week or more Other: Organic foods Reduce exposure to pesticides, plastics, cleaning chemicals, toxic dry cleaning methods, heavy metals, solvents, petrochemicals Manage stressors well and/or reduce significant stressors Cystitis (Acute) Dietary: Water, drink 6-8 glasses or more per day Lactobacillus yogurt, 8 oz. daily Cranberry juice, 1-3 glasses per day Supplements: Vitamin C, 1,000 mg every 2 hours for 2 days then 1,000 mg 3 times daily for 7-10 days "Cranstat Extra" (Vitanica *) or similar, 2 caps every 2 hours for 2 days, then 2 caps three times daily for 7-10 days Dysfunctional uterine bleeding (abnormal bleeding excluding any organic cause) Dietary: Soy foods daily Ground flax seeds, 1-2 tbsp. daily Supplements: Chaste tree extract, 1-2 capsules daily Natural progesterone cream, apply 1/4 tsp to palms and inner upper arms, twice daily, days 15-26 Fibrocystic breast disease Dietary: Avoid caffeine Lower dietary fat to 20% and increase dietary fiber (whole grains, legumes, fruits, vegetables) Increase seafood and seaweed Supplements: Vitamin E, 400 I.U. twice per day Evening primrose oil, 1,500 mg twice per day Genital Herpes (Acute) Dietary: High lysine foods (vegetables, beans, fish, turkey, chicken) Avoid foods high in arginine (chocolate, nuts, seeds) Supplements: Lysine, 1,000 mg three times per day Zinc, 30-60 mg per day Vitamin C, 1,000-3,000 mg per day Topical lemon balm ointment, apply 3-6 times per day Hyperlipidemia Dietary: Oatmeal, one bowl daily Soy foods daily Whole grains and legumes Fish, 2-3 times weekly Garlic and onions daily Olive oil daily Reduce saturated fats, eggs Exercise: 150 minutes per week Supplements: Policosonal, 20 mg twice daily Nicotinic acid, 500 mg 3 times daily (under doctor supervision; monitor liver function tests) Menstrual Cramps Dietary: Increase salmon, tuna, halibut, sardines, herring, fruits, vegetables Decrease dairy, salt, sugar, red meat, poultry Acute pain: Valerian + Crampbark tincture, equal parts: 1 tsp every 3 hours Or "Crampbark Extra" (Vitanica*) or similar, 1-3 caps every 3 hours Or Mag Phos, 6 X 4 pellets every 15 minutes for first 2 hours then every 2 hours Use throughout the month: Niacin, 100 mg twice daily Fish oils, 1080 mg EPA and 720 mg DHA per day "Crampbark Extra," 2 capsules daily Perimenopause/Menopause symptoms Dietary: Soy foods, one serving daily Ground flax seeds, 1 tbsp per day Avoid trans fats and saturated fats Increase fish, olive oil Increase whole grains, legumes, fresh fruits and vegetables Supplements: Most any symptom--Black Cohosh standardized extract, 40 mg twice daily Hot flashes--Options Red clover standardized extract, 40 mg isoflavones twice per day Kava standardized extract, 70 mg kavalactones 2-3 times daily "Women's Phase II" (Vitanica*), 3 caps twice daily Other combination products, follow directions on labels Insomnia--Options L-tryptophan, 1,000 mg-2,000 mg before bed 5-hydroxytryptophan, 150 mg-200 mg before bed Melatonin, 2-10 mg about 7 p.m. Valerian tincture, 1-2 tsp before bed Valerian capsules, 1-2 capsules before bed Best results with tryptophan and melatonin are when both are used: The body needs serotonin to make melatonin. Therefore, 5-HTP or tryptophan will increase serotonin, which will then enhance manufacture of melatonin. Premenstrual syndrome Dietary: Reduce alcohol, caffeine, salt, sugar, refined carbohydrates, dairy products Increase fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, seeds, fish Exercise: Exercise frequently and aerobic Supplements: Vitamin B6, 100-400 mg per day Calcium, 500 mg twice per day Chaste tree standardized extract, 1-2 capsules per day Or "Women's Phase I" (Vitanica*) or similar, 2 caps twice per day Other options: St. John's wort, Evening primrose oil, ginkgo, dandelion leaf, vitamin E, kava, natural progesterone Yeast Vaginitis Dietary: Avoid alcohol, sugars, refined carbohydrates 8 oz acidophilus yogurt daily Garlic daily Acute infection: Boric acid powder in a capsule.
